The Bible for Beginners

August 17, 2024

"It is no empty word for you, but your very life." (Deuteronomy 32:47a, ESV)

Whether you're brand new to reading the Bible or have been reading it for five decades, we are all in the same boat. Studying is a life-long pursuit for all of us.

We understand that opening the Bible can sometimes feel intimidating. Here are the basics that we want you to know:

  • The Bible is a book about God
  • The Bible is not primarily about us
  • The Bible is not a therapist, a magic lamp, a slot machine, or a cut-up collage
  • The Bible is not replaced by books about the Bible
  • The Bible is not out of your reach
  • We are individually called by God to study the Bible
  • Bible study must be done with patience and intentionality
  • Bible study is a commitment made one day at a time, one week at a time, one month at a time, for an entire lifetime

It's our honor and joy to be on this life-long journey with you.

Below you'll find a brief list of resources we have compiled for you as you get started. This list is by no means exhaustive, but we hope it helps you on your journey.
