"And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children..." (Deuteronomy 6:6-7a, ESV)
Abidible Kids was born as the result of us wanting to involve our own son in the studies we were doing. We noticed that he was soaking up the things we were saying. He wanted to participate in lettering the windows and mirrors with us. And suddenly he was memorizing verses on his own without us formally sitting him down!
God must know what He's talking about when He commands us to have His words on our heart and to talk of them "when [we] sit in [our] house, and when [we] walk by the way, and when [we] lie down and when [we] rise." (Deuteronomy 6:7b, ESV)
1. Be diligent in your own study.
The most important factor of teaching God's Word diligently to your children is you growing in knowledge of God yourself. As you study, God will transform your heart, soul, and mind to be more like Him. Your kids will notice.
2. Talk about God continually.
The more you know Him, the more you'll be able to tell your children about who He is, what He has done, and why you love Him. Don't just tell them God's rules, tell them WHO the Rule-Giver is. When our children see their desperate situation apart from God, His saving activity that sets them free, and His unrelenting faithfulness, they'll want to know more of who He is.
Remember, "before God ever brought [the Israelites] to Sinai and gave them the law, he delivered them from bondage through the exodus...Part of following God in obedience is a response to past grace, and heeding God's rules is about freedom, not slavery." (Jason DeRouchie, Desiring God)
3. Never Underestimate the Power of Prayer
Use the free prayer cards that come with each digital study to pray Scripture over your children by name. Ask God to help you diligently teach His Word to your children. "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given to him." (James 1:5, ESV) God is the one pursuing your children's hearts. Trust Him in the process and faithfully ask Him to draw your children to Himself.
4. Use the Abidible Kids Study
We have created studies that your children can do alongside you. These are modified and adapted as needed based on age-range and reading and writing abilities. You can find the different studies in our store here.
5. Have Fun!
Blast the music from our YouTube playlists. Come up with games as you letter, recite, and study together.
